Whispers on the Wind

Could it be true? He had heard such whispers before. Each city that he had visited proved fruitless. Though he continued to help wherever he went, the one goal that he sought to resolve eluded him. Would he ever see that dream realized? If it was possible, then maybe he could think about starting over, to begin again, and pass on what he knew. It was not too late.

As he traversed the woods, his thoughts strayed back to the one that was lost to him. It reminded him of the many walks and conversations they had shared, passing on lessons not just to the younger, but learning lessons as well. He brought the flute to his lips and a tone of lamentation floated on the air.

As the trees thinned out, the sound of a highway could be heard in the distance. Soon he came upon an embankment leading him down to the road. A city could be seen in the distance. He took a deep breath, shouldered his belongings and headed in that direction. This had to be it. He would stay a couple of days, and if no whispers were heard, he would move on.

For 15 years he wandered. He would keep wandering for 15 more, if need be, until time would finally release him from his pain, or until his search was ended. He did not know which it would be. He only knew that the goal and even the essence that he sought continued to be out of his reach. If only there was some hope to let him know that all was not lost, then maybe he would stop his wandering, at least for a little while.
