Spider's Bite

As Kermit Griffin and a certain Shaolin priest entered the Ancient's home, both continued to argue over what had to be done in the best interest of Caine's captive loved ones.
"Caine, I'm going to need to inform Captain Simms about this," Kermit stated. "We now know the kidnapping is real and we have evidence that points that out. We also know who is behind it."
"My father and Peter will be killed if we inform the police."
"Caine, I am the police."
"But you are also a mercenary and you use discretion when it is called for. We must deal with this ourselves."
"Captain Simms isn't going to like this."
"The Black Widow Order will simply disappear if the police get too much involved. You know what happened the last time."
Kermit recalled what had happened when the French police did get involved. When they stormed the manor house, no trace of the Order could be found. Only the body of a young woman, some bloody weapons, and the remains of a crushed black widow spider were all that remained. The Order of the Black Widow had completely vanished as if they had never been there.
"Yeah, I remember. And I also remember you were in no shape to know the full story. How is it that you knew they disappeared?"
"It is their mode of operation?" Caine stated, "And I have dealt with the Black Widow Order before."
"I still say we need to . . ."
"Will you two stop arguing," Cheryl came up to both men. "The Ancient needs his rest. You'll wake him up."
"Our apologies, Cheryl, you are correct," Caine bowed to his former ward and assistant. "How is Lo Si?"
"Well, he seems to be holding his own. What's wrong with him anyway? I've never seen him so ill."
"He has been poisoned by the Black Widow Order."
"No," Cheryl put her hands to her mouth. "Is there anything you can do for him?"
"I have brought some herbs that may strengthen his qi and reduce the effects of the poison."
"Caine, what happened to Peter and your father?"
"They have also been taken by the Black Widow."
A look of horror and shame appeared on Cheryl's face. "I didn't know. I should have been back sooner. I'm sorry. I could have helped stop them."
"It is not your fault. I am going to need your help preparing the tea."
"Sure, just tell me what to do."
Caine instructed Cheryl in preparing the herbs in the proper order so the tea would be at its most potent while Kermit wandered the Ancient's living room. He was about to reach into a clear glass bowl when he was suddenly brought up short by Caine's words.
"I would not do that if I were you," Caine stated, his back facing Kermit. "They are quite poisonous and deadly. They do not like to be handled."
"Thanks for the warning," Kermit stated, slowly moving his hand away. 'I hate it when he does that.' He placed his hands in his pockets then wandered closer to the pair making their preparations. "So, how long is this going to take?"
"You cannot rush the preparation. The herbs must be allowed to simmer for exactly one hour, no less and no more."
'Great,' Kermit thought.
"Perhaps if you were to speak to Donny Double D, you might learn the whereabouts of the Black Widow?"
"What makes you so sure that snitch will know where to find the Order?"
"Donny keeps his ear to the ground?" Caine stated, using the vinacular.
'Anything is better than waiting around here for the Ancient to be cured,' he thought but voiced a far more tactful exclamation. "Sure, I'll check it out," but Kermit was doubtful. "I'll be back on that other matter."
"What other matter," Cheryl asked.
"We need to find the antidote that will cure Peter. Only the Ancient can tell us what drug was given to him."
Cheryl and Caine returned to their task while Kermit went to find Donny Double D and to take the syringe to Nicky Elder. Caine's last thought was they hoped they could find both his father and Peter in time.
