Spider's Bite

Kai Mow sat for a long time, thinking about his next move. It would soon be time to administer another dose to Peter Caine. Without saying a word, one of his brethren came to the door.
"You wished to see me Master?"
"Has another dose been given to the young Shaolin?" Kai Mow inquired.
"Not yet. I was about to do so."
"Have someone give him that dose now. We do not want him to recover from the last one. I have plans for this young man."
"You do not wish him to die?"
"He will die, but it will not be by our hands. First I want his Shaolin reputation to be destroyed. In that way his death will be assured."
"What about the old one and Caine?"
"The old one is Caine's father. He will die a much slower death. Let the spiders have him. As for Caine, his destruction will come from his own hand after he learns what has happened to his family. He will not be able to save them, and by not being able to save them, he fails in his duty as a Shaolin. He will have no choice but to leave Chinatown. Then we will be its "savior." Send in Bi Kanghao. He should be ready by now."
"Yes, Master."
Kai Mow smiled to himself at the brilliance of his own plan. In a few hours Caine will be discovering just what has happened. He will be forced to make a choice. Save his father, or save his son. Either way, someone will die, and in the end, all will be lost.

Peter Caine struggled to a sitting position. This had been one of the hardest nightmares he had ever tried to wake from. Sweat poured from his body. His muscles quivered from fatigue. It felt as if he had ran a marathon. Peter tried to rise from the floor but then though better of it.
"Better not push my luck," he said out loud to no one in particular.
Peter sat back against the coolness of the wall then made a point of looking around. He vaguely remembered that he and his grandfather had been taken prisoner by the Order of the Black Widow. He knew Latrodect had been destroyed, crushed under his own foot while he had been in spider form. He questioned who could be in charge now.
At that moment, two men came in. Peter could see that one of them held a syringe in his hand.
"What took you guys so long?" Peter quipped, trying to make light of a bad situation. Peter thought about trying to fight off the men and rushing to the open door, but his body would not obey his thoughts. *Dad, the crap about having an obedient body doesn't work when they got you juiced to the gills,* he thought.
Peter watched as they rolled up his sleep and proceeded to pump whatever was in the syringe into his arm.
"More happy juice, huh?" Peter quipped once more. "Good, I was beginning to think I was going to be left out. By the way, whose running this little show of yours?"
The two men did not answer as Peter watched them leave one more time. "Here we go again," Peter stated, and braced himself for another round of nightmares.
