Kwai Chang Caine sensed his son's mental cry being suddenly cut off. He nearly fell over when he realized the Ancient's prophecy was coming true. Someone had abducted Peter, and Caine suspected just who was behind the abduction.

"My friend, what has happened?" Lo Si asked with deep concern when he saw that Caine was in distress. He tried to rise, but Caine pushed him back down on the couch.

"Someone has taken my son. But I cannot leave you here alone."

"Do not be concerned. You must go after Peter."

At that moment, Cheryl came rushing into the Ancient's home, her face clearly showing that something was wrong.

"Caine, something's happened. I saw some van high tailing it from your place. They almost ran me down. I went up to see if everything was all right. You weren't there so I came here to tell the Ancient. It looked like a war zone. There's broken glass and pottery all over the place. But . . ."

Caine placed his hands gently on Cheryl's shoulders before she could finish. "Do not be concerned. Everything will be all right. Please, stay with the Ancient. There is someone I must see." Caine turned to leave when Cheryl called him back.

"There's more," she stated. "Your father's missing."

"What?" Caine said, his eyes narrowing and the word coming out like a hiss. He turned toward Lo Si and suddenly realized just what the Ancient meant. Without another word, Caine gathered his brown pouch and headed out the door. He brushed passed Cheryl and reached up to give her cheek a quick pat, letting her know once more that everything would be all right.

It didn't take him long to get to the 101st precinct. Knowing Chinatown so well, he knew which roads to take to avoid trouble. To others, it appeared as if he moved like the wind. Though a Shambhala Master was quick, Caine smiled to himself, not letting others in on what he knew. It added to his mystic. The smile faded as he entered the doors of the 101st and headed to the back of the bullpen. Now was not the time to indulge in humor. The lives of his son and father were in danger and he needed assistance by the only other person who has felt the black widow's nets and survived.

Kermit Griffin sat before his computer, his shades barely hiding the black mood that he was in. CAPTAIN Simms had made it perfectly clear to him that he was not to get involved in any more outside interests not related to police work. His last "disappearing act' to France in her opinion had been the last one, but there had been one more. Lucky for him, it had taken place over a holiday weekend and he had been back at his desk bright and early in the morning. His mood, however had not been caused by Simms' ultimatum, though it ran a good second.

Kermit was beginning to think that Peter had been right in leaving the force to become a priest. There were just too many rules and not enough compassion. He had to stop and pause a moment at that thought. Since when did he learn to care so much for others? Perhaps staying here on the force as liaison wasn't such a great idea after all. It was Blaisdell who gave him the badge as a means for him to get away from the life of a mercenary on a temporary basis. Kermit suddenly realized that "temporary basis" turned more permanent. It was also about the same time when he met Peter Caine.

"Have a seat Caine," Kermit said, not turning around.

Caine gave a slight smile, but otherwise did not react to Kermit's comment. Kermit was one of very few people who knew when Caine was there without the need to see him. Kermit either had very strong perceptive abilities or the fact that his monitor acted as a reflective mirror allowing him to see behind him. It was what made him the best at what he was, a mercenary, but one with a strong sense of honor.

"I need your help," Caine said quietly.

"That's a switch," Kermit said. "Usually it's 'Come to Chinatown, ask for Caine, he will help you' not 'Come to the 101st . . ." Kermit did not have the opportunity to finish when Caine got straight to the point.

"Peter and my father have been taken by the Black Widow sect."
