Soulmates Beyond Time
Part 18

Skalany read: Come to the park. I need to talk with you. Come to the pond near the merry -go-round. Come alone. Urgent. Jordan

Who was she kidding. The Captain was about ready to fire her. She acts strangely after Peter leaves. Then she leaves without saying a word. Now this. What was going on? 'I hope she has a good explanation for all this,' she thought.

Skalany waited by the pond where Jordan had instructed her to meet her. 10 minutes went by.

"Don't turn around."

"Jordan? What's going on?"

"I'm in trouble Skalany and I can't let anyone else know. They may be in on it."

"They!?! Whose they?" Skalany tries to get a look at Jordan.

"I said don't turn around. They may be watching me."

"Jordan, please. Give me some clue as to what's happening here.

"I think Peter and his father may be under some influence."

"How do you know that?" Skalany stiffened at the mention of Caine. Something wasn't right here, but she needed to play along to learn more.

"I followed Caine to Paris and some woman tried to kill him. Only she didn't succeed. But after the attack, he acted real strange. He started saying things like he needed to talk to Peter, that it was a matter of life and death."

Skalany listened to Jordan with half an ear. Kermit and Caine had filled her in on the details last night. She could not believe that even she had been influenced by Wei Ch'I. She even somehow believed Jordan when she said those things about Peter. Now she was saying things about Caine that obviously weren't true. Something was wrong with Jordan. There was more here than just a simple game. Something else was going on.

"So what do you want me to do about it?"

"I have something here I want you to place in both their teas. It's from the Ancient. It will cure them. I can't get close to them. They think I'm the one trying to kill them."

"Did you go to Chinatown to get it?"

"Uh, yeah." Skalany had her.

"I don't think so, Jordan. Caine and Kermit told me everything. Caine also told me the Ancient has been in California for a week."

Jordan acted quickly. Her cover was blown. Damn that woman. She was too smart for her own good. Jordan grabbed Skalany by the neck and pressed a ring into her skin. The ring contained a powerful drug. Skalany collapsed into Jordan's arms.

"Hey, is everything okay?" A stranger came up seeing the woman fall.

"It's okay. It's just the heat. I'm a cop. I'll call an ambulance for her." Jordan reached into her pocket and made a call on her cellular phone. She would have to alter her plans a little but this could work out better than she hoped.

"Mary Margaret!" Caine shouted as he came out of his meditation.

"Pop? Are you all right? I heard you call."

"Something has happened to Mary Margaret."

"Is there something I can do?"

"No. I must go alone."

"Pop, I can help you know."

"I know, my son. But you need to finish your lesson. Begin mixing those herbs like I told you. We may need them later."

Peter looked over to the workbench. The need to be with his father during a crisis pulled at him. His father, however, was the Master here and he needed to continue his training as an apothecary. He decided that discretion was the better part of valor. If his father really needed help, he would know, and like his father, he would be there when the time was right.

Caine picked up his satchel and left Peter to his work. At the door he turned back. He got the strangest feeling that he would not see his son for a long time and yet something also told him that his son would be there when he needed him the most. Caine put on his hat and left to find Skalany.

Peter mixed the herbs feeling each of them with his chi to test their potency. He found one whose life force was not as strong as it should be so he went to the balcony to pick a fresh batch. At that moment, part two of Jordan's plans was put into action.

Kermit received the note. Meet me at the amusement park by the old miner's ride. It will be closed for repairs. There's someone I need assistance with. Peter.

Kermit grabbed his Dessert Eagle. Peter, for now, was the only one who knew how to find Kermit. If Peter had sent a note, something must be urgent. Kermit drove his car to the park and paid the admission fee. He kept his eyes trained on everyone looking for Peter. The old miner's ride was closed for repairs but no one was about. Kermit waited for 10 minutes. This wasn't like Peter to be late. Then something shot out at him and imbedded itself in his leg. Kermit soon found his world spinning around him. His mind called out to Peter, not sure if Peter would even hear him. Then he fell into darkness.

Caine found the note that had been sent to Skalany. She had dropped it when Jordan took her prisoner. This was not good. If Jordan had her, that meant she was here, somewhere in the city. Caine thought about letting Peter know but changed his mind. Though Jordan surprised him the last time, she would not do it a second time. Jordan needed help. For now, it was up to Caine to try and help her through this crisis. Caine looked around to see if he could spot Jordan. She had to be nearby watching him. Then something came out of nowhere and Caine barely reacted in time. It had been almost silent. From that distraction someone came up to him and a needle was pressed into his arm. Darkness and confusion clouded his mind. This should not be happening. He should have been able to use his powers as a Shambhala master and ward off the danger. The strength of this enemy was as equal to his own. He hoped that Peter would be up to the challenge because it would be his turn to face whatever evil had entered.

Peter finished mixing the herbs and decided to meditate and wait for his father on news of Skalany. He thought about doing his own search, but he had to learn patience and trust his father would be all right. A foreboding feeling though had crept into him and he needed to calm his chi and learn the reason for it. Peter settled down on the mat in front of the meditation shrine and lit the incense and candles. As he centered himself, visions of Skalany, Kermit, and his father came to him as well as one other. The visions of each of them reminded him of the nightmare he had about Jordan and his mother. Kermit and his father were trapped within giant webs. His father called out to him. Mary Margaret was also there standing by his father's web, holding what looked like a ceremonial knife. Her eyes were unfocused and staring foreword. The knife was raised, poised on the brink of being plunged downward. Another entered.

"The choice is yours young priest. Become my mate or see your father and your friends destroyed. Come to the Spider's Lair. I await your answer."

"Peter! Bring them. Hurry!"

Before the vision ended, somehow his father was able to impart to him the knowledge he would need to stop Jordan and to save his friends. Peter snapped out of his meditation, quickly gathered what he needed, and was out the door.
