Requiem II: Soul's Honor Lost
"YOU!!" The dark Caine raged. "YOU CANNOT STOP ME!"
"I must," the light continued. "You must not do this. If you do, we cannot hope to become one. Only death and oblivion will result."
"NO! I MUST REMAIN FREE!"
"We are free," the light stated.
As the dark stared toward his adversary, Mary Margaret slipped through his hands and landed on the hard surface of the plane. The light drew closer, his arms outstretched.
"If you harm her, you dishonor us. Honor would be forever lost."
Arrruuugh. If I join with you, I will no longer exist," the dark continued to argue.
"You and I are one. You are Yin, I am Yang. Without you, I cannot be whole. Without me, you also cannot be whole. We must become one. Can you not see we help each other, to balance?"
As the two Caines argued, the plane around them seemed to also do battle. As the creeping storm invaded the tranquil landscape, new green grass sprouted below their feet and began to stretch out its tendrils and enter the raging storm.
"Come we must be balanced. Without the other, the temple cannot endure. We cannot endure. The temple must fall."
With that final argument, the light spread out his arms to welcome the dark into himself. But the dark, instead had other plans and lunged at the light, bent on trying to snuff out its brightness. Instead, when the two halves met, light and dark flared into a cohesive mix and when everything cleared, what remained was one. The One knelt on the ground, but soon rose to meet the others.
"I am whole," Caine stated. There were tears on his cheeks and a peace that had not been there in many months. He then turned toward the woman who lay on the ground, his heart nearly tearing in two. He gently brushed his hand along her cheek, then turned toward his father and son. "Take care of her." He then walked a short distance from the three, turned toward them again, and faded out of existence, returning from whence he came.

Peter and Matthew opened their eyes to see that Mary Margaret was slumped on the floor, her arms outstretched. Though she was unconscious, there was a pained look in her face. Peter picked up the small bottle, lifted his old partner into his arms, and coaxed her to drink. As the liquid spilled into her mouth and down her throat, Mary Margaret stirred and feeling that she was being held began to struggle anew.
Mary Margaret, it's all right," Peter tried to reassure her, but she continued to struggle. "Scalany, it's all right, you're safe."
"No, no!" Suddenly, Mary Margaret struck out and hit Peter squarely in the jaw, which caused him to drop her to the floor. When she felt the hard surface impact with the back of her head, her eyes sprang open and she realized she was no longer on the astro plane. "Peter, I . . . ! . . . is Caine . . ."
"It's all right, everything's all right. My father's safe and whole."
"Good," she said, though her words were less than enthusiastic.
"You are still troubled," Matthew added.
"I think I'm going to need some time off, away from everything," Scalany said.
"My father should be returning from wherever he's at. Perhaps you should stay and that way you can see for yourself how he's doing."
"NO!" Scalany said a bit too forceful. "No, thank you. I'm going to go home. Maybe visit my mother. I really need some time to myself."
"Scalany, uh Mary Margaret, what happened?"
"I can't talk about it right now. Right now, I can't face anyone, especially your father. I need some time. Besides, I have to get back to a case I'm working on with Jody."
"Fair enough. You know where to find me if you want to talk."
"I know. Come to Chinatown, ask for Caine, he will help you."
"That is what you say?" Matthew asked.
"Yeah," Peter said. "It was Pop's idea . . . ."
"I like it," Matthew stated.
