Bobby Carson made his usual trek to see Kyle Jameson. He hadn't seen the old man since the dead was done. His father wanted him to lay low, but Bobby couldn't help wanting to tell the old man how things progressed.

"Come in my boy," Kyle Jameson seemed more subdued than usual. "How is your father?"

"He's okay." Bobby stated; the hairs on the back of his neck suddenly prickled. Something didn't seem right. Bobby stiffened as Jameson got to the point. He watched the old man move to his desk and sit down.

"You know that CIA man that's in town. Well he came to see me. You are in deep trouble boy."

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about the woman," Jameson stated evenly. "He's getting closer. Next time he will come and see you."

Beads of sweat formed on Bobby's forehead. "He's got nothing."

"He knows the woman was poisoned. You don't think you'll get away with walking into the jail and committing murder."

"You said she had to be silenced. She leaked it to the press about the mine."

"I was just on the phone with the Braniff Gazzette. They had nothing to do with printing that story."

"What?" Bobby was confused by Jameson's words. "You mean I killed her for no reason?"

"Now I wouldn't say there wasn't a reason. She would have gotten greedy. She did know about the mine, and that's reason enough. Still, we should have been more cautious."

"What are we going to do?"

"It's not up to me any more. You must do what is right."

"I don't want to go to jail," Bobby pleaded.

"Then you should have thought about it before you killed that woman."

"You're the one who told me to get rid of her."

"I know I did my boy, and I realized now that was the ravings of an old man. You shouldn't listen to me so much. I seem to have gotten you into a lot of trouble. I don't know how to fix this other than having you turn yourself in."

"No, there's got to be another way." Bobby said.

"You have no choice now boy," Jameson hinted. "That CIA man is not going to give up until he finds you."

Bobby grew silent. This was one thing he did not expect. Even his father had told him that the woman needed to be gotten rid of, and now Jameson was telling him that he shouldn't have done it, that he was going to have to turn himself in. Bobby's thoughts became confused and erratic. There had to be a way out of this. This would not be happening if . . . Then it dawned on him as to who truly was the blame for everything.

This whole thing was due to one person, and he had the gall to return to this place. He should have followed his instincts and found a way to get rid of him without anyone the wiser, but Vance had intercepted him. There was no way that Shaolin was going to rebuild that temple. Too many people knew. There was only one way out now.

"Don't worry Mr. Jameson, I'll find my own way out of this."

"Don't be foolish boy. If you were to turn yourself in, you might be able to get out of jail in 10 or 20 years with good behavior."

"And what about you old man?" Bobby questioned. "What will you do while I'm gone? Steal my portion of the platinum?"

"I've got enough to last me two life-times boy. I don't need any more. I've been thinking that it's time to close up shop. The whole town knows anyway. Eventually, they will learn of its location, and everyone will want a piece of it."

"Not while that Shaolin is still around or that CIA man."

"Don't you do something stupid Bobby Carson. You'll get yourself killed."

"I'm tired of living in my father's shadow and yours. I've listened to both of you, and now look what it's gotten me. I should have left this town when I had a chance, but no. You and my father wanted to keep that mine going, even after old Vance Cavanaugh died. Yeah I'm richer then I'll ever be in my life, but for what. I can't do anything with it because if I do, everyone will know. And if I say anything, where it came from, it might be taken all away."

Bobby continued to rant and rave for another few minutes. Then something changed and even Kyle Jameson became afraid. A crazed look entered Bobby's eyes.

"It's all their fault. They're the ones preventing us from really having everything. If it hadn't been for them we might have discovered it sooner. Who knows how rich we could have all been, but they keep coming back, like a cancer. The woman had the right idea. She just got sloppy and tried to kill the wrong person. She should have killed all of them when she had the chance. Once they were all dead, we wouldn't have to worry about them any more. Yeah, that's what I'll do. I'll get rid of all of them."

Bobby Carson rushed from Jameson's house. A fire was in his eyes that burned so hot that it was surely consuming him from the inside. Madness drove him now, the same madness that drove him to shoot Peter Caine. It was a madness that would not stop until it burned itself out.
