Temple: A New Journey Begins

"Are you sure it was him?"
"There was no mistaking that face. It was him."
"I wonder why he returns and at this time?"
"I saw him go up to the ruins. You don't think he's thinking of rebuilding?"
"If he does we'll just have to show him that we don't want his kind in our town."
"There's more. Vance was with him."
"Figures. He was always sticking his nose in where it didn't belong. Not like the old days with his grandfather."
"So what are we going to do about that priest?"
"Something we should have done a long time ago, Bobby." The older man turned toward the younger. "Gather everyone you can, including your father. Tell them it's time. We're going to pay a visit to old lady Lowery's place. We've let that shrine of hers stand long enough."
"What about the rumors that I heard, that someone was killing off the priests and the monks that were visiting the shrine."
"More power to that person if they can get every living one of them. I don't like deviants in my town."
Bobby Carson grew silent. He knew Kyle Jameson since he was a kid. He would often drop by the old man's place on his way to wherever he was going. The man had been somewhat of a hero to him. He would tell stories about the priests that lived up at the ruined temple and the unwholesome acts they would perform. "It was why my father and old Vance drove them out," Kyle had said. "I was only a young man then, but I was so glad when I heard that my dad and several others stormed that temple. You would have been proud. Do you remember Jordan Woo?" Kyle suddenly questioned.
"Never heard of him."
"He was one of those deviants," Kyle explained. "He had the audacity to run for mayor. You should have seen his face when me and the gang threw eggs at him."
"Wasn't he that Chinese guy that died mysteriously a while back? I heard people talk about him a couple of times."
"Yeah, and then Peter Caine showed up shortly after that. Who'd of thought that a big city cop like him would turn into one of them. Betrayed his own kind if you ask me."
"Wasn't Peter Caine part Chinese?"
"Yeah, he was. Sure didn't look it. If you ask me I think his mother betrayed her own kind marrying a half-breed Chinaman."
"Whatever happened to Peter Caine?" Bobby asked, not a hint of what he knew showed on his face.
"Disappeared."
"You don't suppose that's the real reason why his son came back," Bobby speculated.
"To look for his father?" A worried look came over Kyle. "Well if he did, he won't be finding him any time soon. That was ten years ago. I'm hungry. All this talk has given me an appetite. Let's go get something to eat."
"What about the guys?"
"They can wait. They're not going anywhere. And neither is Kwai Chang Caine."
