Chinatown

Peter left the hospital with his cousin and Lo Si. The look on his face was one of deep worry. The thought that someone was blocking all sense of his father disturbed him. Who would be powerful enough to be able to do that? Then a thought came to him. Could Bon Bon Hai be behind his father's disappearance? Henry did say that he had been tracking Bon Bon Hai and that he was back in town, but why didn't he or his father hear about it? Maybe he did, but was too busy to notice.

Peter's thoughts drifted back to a few days before. His father had been guiding him into the deeper realms of meditation. He had never gone that deep before. He had actually found his spirit floating free and becoming one with the universe, it was beyond anything he had ever experienced. Something nagged at Peter's senses when he thought about that meditation. What was it? Had something happened?

Peter brought back the feelings of that day and realized that something had happened, but it seemed inconsequential to everything else. While he had been meditating, someone had laughed. He could actually hear someone laugh loud and hard. The laugh wasn't joyous but sinister in nature. Peter thought it had been from remnants of another time and simply shrugged it off. After the meditation was done, Peter had mentioned it to his father, but Caine had not heard it, so Peter thought he had imagined it. Now he wished he had paid more attention to that laugh and where it had come from. Perhaps it was time for him to meditate and see if he could once again find that laugh, and the person behind it.

"Henry, I'm going back to my father's place. There's something I need to do."

"Peter, what's going on?"

"Why don't you report in to the 101st. There's someone you should meet over there. He'll be able to get you all the information you need on Bon Bon Hai."

"What's his name?"

"Kermit Griffin," Peter answered.

"That name sounds familiar," Henry mused.

"In what way?"

"Oh, I don't know. I've seen that name pop up on several international files, some of them were FBI related. They indicated that he could be some sort of mercenary and a very dangerous man."

Peter debated whether to tell his cousin just what sort of man Kermit Griffin was but decided against the idea. Henry McLean-Caine was going to have to learn sooner or later that looks could be deceiving. Kermit could be dangerous, but only to his enemies. The rough exterior was just a front, put on to amuse and confuse those who tended to underestimate the man if all they knew about him was his skill with a computer.

"Kermit is a character, I'll hand you that. Just don’t try to take his gummy bears or hack his computer without authorization."

"Kermit's some kind of a wiz-kid?"

"I wouldn't call him a wiz-kid, at least not to his face. I have seen him do things with a computer in minutes that most would take a year to figure out."

"How old is he? Are we even talking about the same guy?" Henry questioned.

"Let's see we've discussed whether he was a mercenary, a computer geek, and a gummy bear freak. Have I left anything out?"

"Nope, that about covers it," Henry concurred. "So is he?"

"As Kermit is fond of saying, 'Oh yeah.'" Peter said in his best imitation of the absent ex-merc. "And guilty on all three counts."

'You're serious," Henry stated.

"One word of caution. Get on his good side as soon as you can. You wouldn't want to make him an enemy. Tell him the absolute truth. He hates it when he's deceived."

'I'll remember that. But what are you going to do in the mean time?"

"Meditate," was all Peter said. He then turned away and began walking back towards the center of Chinatown, leaving his cousin behind with a puzzled look on his face.
