Year 1997

"So you going to tell me about this will?" Peter Caine asked.

"You don't give up do you?"

"Nope. And neither do you apparently. You said you've been looking for my father since . . ."

"Actually, my grandfather had been looking for Kwai Chang Caine since my great-grandmother died. "I've only just heard about this last week."

"How old are you by the way?" Peter asked. "You don't look that much older than me."

"A trait that runs in the family I'm sure," Henry added. "Actually I'm 39."

"So, what do you do for a living?"

"I'm a cop," Henry answered in a deadpan voice.

Peter almost laughed at that. "Oh really. With what precinct?"

"I work out of the 101st. I'm on temporary assignment. But I don't start until tomorrow."

"What brings you to Chinatown?" Peter asked. As a cop, he had only met a few who were temporarily assigned to the 101st because they were working on a case that brought them into the area, either from another precinct where jurisdictions crossed paths or it involved the FBI.

"There's a fellow I've been looking for. They call him the Tiger, but I learned his real name was Bon Bon Hai. Need to ask him some questions. You don't happen to know him?"

Peter gave Henry a crooked smile. "As a friend of mine is always saying, 'Oh yeah.' My father and I had two encounters with Mr. Bon Bon Hai. One of which you might say was rather enlightening. Well afterward, I placed a file on my former Captain's desk. The man is a major threat not just to this community but to mankind. Soon after that, he disappeared. We haven't heard anything from him for two years."

At that moment, a young boy came by and handed Peter a note. Peter opened it and his face turned white.

"What is it?"

"It's my father and Mary Margaret. They've been in an accident. Come on."

As Peter led Henry out the door he questioned to himself, 'Why didn't I feel it? The link to my father should have told me something was wrong. What's going on?'
