Temple Tales Chat

The gateway and the Chinese character are familiar symbols to many people. Separately each has their own meaning.

The Gateway: It alone is a symbol that invites those to enter. I use it here to signify my new addition to Temple Tales. The temple has expanded and a new room has been added. This gateway leads to the Chat Room, a room where any topic may be discussed, from Kung Fu to the Tao.

The Chinese Character: Its significance is great. It means The Way and is also a symbol of the Tao. Originally, 'tao' meant ' course of action,' perhaps a military one. The character combines 'foot' or 'to follow', with 'the leader - a 'head' topped with the two plumes that were used in ancient days to signify the rank of general. To Confucius, tao became the 'way of moral rectitude-the way we do what we do. It was Lao-tzu who interpreted Tao as the law, or truth of the universe, the oneness from which sprang the ten thousand things, each of which contains within it the law or tao of its own being. In Taoism, to see not only things but the tao of things, is to follow the Tao.

Together, they become something new. So I invite you to follow and enter the Chat Temple. There is only one thing that I ask of you, that you come in peace. Discussions may get heated and arguments might ensue, but please, I ask that you leave your weapons behind. "What weapons?" you may ask. Think along these lines. A tongue can be just as sharp as a razor's edge. It can cut deeper than any knife. Words can harm just as readily as any bullet. I ask that you be respectful to all whom entered. This is a place of safety. All are welcome who come in peace.
